PolicyMe vs other health and dental insurance providers

Compared to other Canadian health insurance providers, PolicyMe has a much higher average customer satisfaction rating. Policyholders love the friendly and responsive team of advisors and find it straightforward to ask questions, use their coverage, and claim reimbursement.

Typically, the amount of coverage provided per dollar paid is low for cheap health and dental insurance plans and high for premium or enhanced ones. However, PolicyMe’s Guaranteed Issue Classic plan is an exception:

FAQ: PolicyMe health insurance

Methodology

About the data

PolicyMe’s scores and rankings are based on an independent, data-driven review of the best health and dental insurance plans in Canada. Our analysis combines 850+ quotes for 65 health and dental insurance products from 10 well-known providers, drawn from official websites and supplemented by ratings from Google, Reviews.io, Trustpilot, Insureye, and the Better Business Bureau.

About customer service ratings

We average the customer review scores of each company from Google, Reviews.io, Trustpilot, Insureye, and the Better Business Bureau to get an overall score out of 5.0. For financial stability, we record the grade given by a reputable credit rating agency such as A.M. Best, Morningstar DBRS, and S&P Global.

About value scores

For each product, we calculate the maximum amount of coverage claimable within the first year of enrollment, minus any deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments. We divide this amount by the health insurance premiums charged to 13 different age groups.

We then rank the results on a percentile scale from 0.0 - 5.0, with 0.0 representing the lowest value compared to similar products, and 5.0 the highest. The scores above show the average yearly value for all policyholders between the ages of 0 - 100.

About coverage comparisons

For fairness and accuracy, we compare the maximum amount claimable during the first year of enrollment in each product to the industry average for similar products (and for similar coverage categories, if applicable). For example, the maximum annual prescription drug coverage offered by a replacement health and dental insurance plan will always be compared to the industry average for the same type of coverage offered by all replacement plans.

The results above show the average difference between the product’s coverage and the industry average coverage for prescription drugs, dental care, and vision, paramedical, mental health, and emergency dental services combined.

About the best provider rankings

The rankings for the best health and dental insurance providers in Canada are determined by adding each provider’s customer service score to the value score of its top-rated plan and arranging them in descending order.
